True Think is a new band led by acclaimed keyboard player/pianist/songwriter Robert Mitchell. Performing music from their forthcoming album of powerful songs of protest, love and peace, they blend electronic, jazz, R'n'B, spoken word, film and folk influences together to create a unique sound.
Joining Robert are Alice Zawadzki, Sky Arts Guitar Star 2019 Zayn Mohammed, Tom Mason and Saleem Raman.
Robert is a throwback to the powerful tradition of artistic mastery in pursuit of transcendence. Whether performing solo or with his various ensembles, his focus is upon the highest ideals of the essence of jazz.
In the past Robert has performed with Courtney Pine, the Bournemouth Symphony Chorus, Steve Coleman, Basement Jaxx, Billy Harper, Alicia Olatuja, Omar Puente, Jhelisa Anderson, Norma Winstone, Orphy Robinson and many more.
Robert was Musical Director for the celebration of the classic BBC Jazz 625 series - broadcast live from the Cheltenham Jazz Festival - where he led the house band, featuring special guests such as Gregory Porter, Joshua Redman and Charlie Watts.
Vocalist, violinist, songwriter and composer Alice's rich musical background and whimsical hyper-creativity converge into artistry which draws upon her early exposure to New Orleans jazz and gospel with the legendary Lillian Boutté, an extensive classical training as a violinist, and a continuous exploration of improvisation, poetry, and folk music from diverse traditions - all propelled by a voice of velvet suppleness and gutsy emotional power.
Multi-instrumentalist, producer, composer and guitarist Zayn grew up playing Flamenco and jazz from the tender age of three. Pianist Ahmad Jamal is a big influence on his music and artistry, and he's also studied with saxophonists Wayne Shorter and Joe Lovano, and bassist John Patitucci.
Tom has been working with Robert since 2002, and over the years has also recorded and performed with an array of artists, including Questlove, Lizz Wright, Goldie, Mark Ronson, Jamie Cullum, Lily Allen, Angelique Kidjo, Gwilym Simcock, Jonathan Jeremiah and The Heritage Orchestra.
Saleem's musical taste is as diverse as his credits. A regular member of the Ronnie Scott's House Band, he currently works with vocalists Polly Gibbons and Gabrielle Ducomble, Afrobeat/Dub outfit The Fontanelles, and has recorded, performed or toured with musicians such as Layla Hathaway, Esperanza Spalding, Martin Taylor, Julia Biel and Lily Allen.
Robert Mitchell (Piano/Keyboards), Alice Zawadzki (Vocals), Zayn Mohammed (Guitar), Tom Mason (Bass), Saleem Raman (Drums).
