Janette Mason Trio

Photo of Janette Mason

Janette and her musicians will be providing listeners with their own fireworks display - albeit a musical one - playing jazz full of passion, intrigue, power and surprise, stirred with a small dose of funk and blues, laced with with a strong groove and cinematic texture.

Alongside Janette's contemporary jazz compositions, the trio take on arrangements of pop classics such as Sweet Dreams by the Eurythmics, Gary Numan's Cars, The Beatles' Eleanor Rigby and David Bowie's Ashes to Ashes, plus new takes on the classic American Songbook.

One of UK jazz's best-kept secrets, Janette is a pianist, arranger, composer and consummate musician who has worked with pop artists such as Seal, Pulp, Oasis, kd lang and Suzanne Vega, plus outstanding jazz vocalists like Claire Martin and Ian Shaw - and more quirkier singers such as Robert Wyatt.

With the ability to combine the latest technology with her natural flair for orchestration, Janette’s versatility and articulate musical inventiveness creates a diverse array of atmospheres and moods. Drawing upon her eclectic influences in jazz, pop, indie, classical, Latin American and World Music, she forges her own original style that journeys from intimacy to dynamic attack, and intricacy to expansive fluidity.

Described by The Guardian's James Griffiths as “a band leader of pugnacious flair and genuine unpredictability”, Janette's skills as a composer can be heard in countless TV ads and programmes - plus feature films such as Ruby Blue and The Calling.

Currently Musical Director at the Hideaway in London, Janette's debut album, Din and Tonic, was shortlisted by Guardian jazz critic John Fordham as a contender for ‘Jazz Album of the Year’. This was followed in January 2009 with the release of Alien Left Hand, which garnered a Parliamentary Jazz nomination.

The intuitive style and musical expertise of bassist Tom Mason and drummer Jack Pollitt complement Janette's unique improvisational approach perfectly to create innovative, energetic and engaging live performances.

Bassist Tom has recorded and performed with a diverse array of artists, including Lizz Wright, Mark Ronson, Jamie Cullum and Gwilym Simcock, while drummer Jack has worked with artists such as Beyonce, Pharrell Williams, Ed Sheeran and Beverley Knight. He’s also a founding member of the highly successful band Mama’s Gun.

So, light the touch paper . . . stand well back . . . and prepare to be blown away by this very talented lady and her fellow musicians.
