Noel McCalla & Derek Nash Band
Some Kinda Wonderful: The Music Of Stevie Wonder
Support: Gabriela Eva
Celebrating the genius of Stevie Wonder's entire career, mercurial vocalist Noel McCalla and sax supremo Derek Nash have assembled a band of top musicians to play a wide-ranging back-catalogue of classic hits.
These include 1970's Signed, Sealed, Delivered through to hits from Talking Book, Innervisions, Songs In The Key of Life and Hotter Than July.
From I Wish and Superstition, Sir Duke and Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing, to beautiful arrangements of My Cherie Amour and Overjoyed, the set also includes huge hits by other artists for whom Stevie composed.
Noel’s long association with the brilliant Morrissey Mullen Band, prompted Blues & Soul to dub him “one of Britain’s best soul singers” and, for more than 19 years, his searing, soulful vocals were featured with the iconic Manfred Mann's Earth Band. He also provided vocals on Mike Rutherford's highly-acclaimed album, Smallcreep's Day, and often guests with jazz funk band, Mezzoforte.
British Jazz Award-winning Derek is one of the UK’s busiest musicians. He fronts six bands, each with its own unique sound and featuring some of the top jazz musicians in the UK today.
Derek has been a full-time member of the Jools Holland Rhythm & Blues Orchestra since 2004 and is also a member of Ronnie Scott’s Blues Explosion. With these bands, he has enjoyed sharing the stage with many great artists, including Tom Jones, Eric Clapton, David Sanborn, Jack Bruce, Amy Winehouse, Michael Buble and Sir Paul McCartney.
In the jazz funk world Derek has performed with David Benoit, Brian Culbertson, Ernie Watts, Mezzoforte, Nelson Rangell, and Don and Dave Grusin.
As an arranger, Derek's worked for many major artists, including Annie Lennox, Nile Rogers, Gregory Porter and Chaka Khan, and has also guested with other major artists such as Bob Dorough, Rumer and Shakatak, whle between them, the other band members have performed with the Bee Gees, Bill Withers, Vanessa Mae, Gary Moore and Jethro Tull.
Noel McCalla (Vocals), Derek Nash (Saxophones), Neil Angilley (Keyboards), Tim Cansfield (Guitar), Jonathan Noyce (Bass), Nic France (Drums).
Raised on the sounds of Alanis Morissette, Nina Simone and Portishead, singer/songwriter Gabriela Eva was inspired by strong female singers and her mother to freely express herself creatively. Her borderless songwriting is a hybrid mix of pop, alt soul, nu jazz and funk.
