"Inspired by the likes of Lana Del Rey and Florence & The Machine, her music is a unique combination of soulful pop, jazz and blues." - CelebMix on Helen Connelly.
"Her beautiful and assured vocals take you on a musical journey that runs through dirty funk, soulful blues, classic old school R'n'B and uplifting ballads." - Blues & Soul on Set Me Free.
American saxophonist Dave Lewis' 1UP pick up the standard from where The Crusaders, Rufus and The Meters left off, laying down the deepest grooves, allied to virtuosic improvisation and breathtaking interplay.
1UP's raw and lyrical sound is perfectly matched by the soulful intensity and searing blues vocals of Lizzie Deane, a singer whose voice emulates the sweet, melodic and raw belting lines associated with the classic soul and blues divas.
With her warm persona and infectious performance style, Lizzie's musical influences include Aretha Franklin, James Brown, The Jacksons, Etta James, Stevie Wonder & Otis Redding, while critics have compared her vocals to those of Aretha, Dusty Springfield, Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin, Lisa Stansfield and Joss Stone.
Lizzie's also performed with artists such as Pee Wee Ellis and Fred Wesley of the JB Horns, Carleen Anderson, Marcella Detroit, Mica Paris, Kim Mazelle and Jocelyn Brown.
1UP's other band members boast a fine pedigree too, having performed, recorded and toured with John Martyn, The Blockheads, John Mayall, Eric Clapton, Albert Lee, Paloma Faith, Van Morrison, George Coleman, Gil Scott-Heron, Ronnie Laws, George Benson, Roy Ayers, Tom Jones, Tina Turner and David Bowie.
With their original material and evocative lyrics, 1UP bring their own contemporary edge to the groove. Above all, it’s a band of outstanding musicians who play as one.
