From the USA: Lynne Arriale Trio
Sunday, March 4th
“As with every move in her celebrated career, Lynne Arriale remains both readily identifiable in her different pursuits and impossible to pin down in specific character. Whether given to introspection or taken by extroversion, she remains a force of nature." - All About Jazz reviewing 2018's Give Us These Days.
That is just one of many outstanding reviews of the flame-haired pianist/composer, a virtuoso musician who manages to achieve a very special, deep connection with her audience, the energy flowing both ways, while her emotional authenticity allows her audience to feel and think along with her.
Each one of Lynne's trio albums stands as its own distinctive work of art, unique in design and expression - yet all bear the hallmarks of a singular artistry, showcasing adept fingers and tremendous heart. She can swing as hard as anyone, but in a modern way. She can play soft and gentle, like Bill Evans, or loud and heavy, like Thelonius Monk or McCoy Tyner, while producing extraordinarily rich harmonies.
Lynne's remarkable career is graced by a rare commitment to authenticity and vulnerability, defined by careful craft and exceptionally high artistic standards. It is this willingness to remain so emotionally exposed that makes her performances so rivetting and accessible to music lovers of all persuasions.
A prolific recording artist, with 15 albums to date, Lynne is known for the clarity, honesty and lyricism of her melodic lines, her virtuoso technique, and her genius for creating an almost telepathic interplay around her trio, resulting in a sound greater than the sum of its parts.
Her albums have topped the Jazzweek US Radio Charts and been included on numerous 'Best Of' lists, including The New Yorker, United Press International, JAZZIZ, JazzTimes and Jazz History Online.
Lynne has toured Japan with the 100 Golden Fingers show, featuring iconic jazz pianists Tommy Flanagan, Hank Jones, Monty Alexander, Cedar Walton, Kenny Barron, Harold Mabern, Roger Kellaway, Junior Mance and Ray Bryant, where she more than held her own. She has also performed and/or recorded with jazz greats Randy Brecker, George Mraz, Benny Golson, Rufus Reid, Larry Coryell and Marian McPartland.
Her 15th album, Chimes of Freedom, is Lynne's most passionate artistic statement to date, reflecting on freedom, cultural diversity, and her wish that all refugee families may reach an inclusive safe harbour among the democratic nations of the world.
Accompanying Lynne are Dutch bassist Jasper Somsen, who's worked with artists such as Peter Erskine, Joey Calderazzo, Eric Marienthal and Gary Husband, and drummer E.J. Strickland, who's performed with the likes of Wynton Marsalis, Ravi Coltrane, Cassandra Wilson, Terence Blanchard, Lizz Wright and Russell Malone.
Lynne Arriale (Piano), Jasper Somsen (Double Bass), E.J. Strickland (Drums).
