Tom Harrison Quartet featuring Cleveland Watkiss
Music Beyond Compare: The Music of Duke Ellington
Music Beyond Compare aims to explore the music of the genius jazz composer Duke Ellington.
Following a year of intensive study of Ellington's music, supremely talented rising altoist Tom Harrison aims to bring some of the jazz giant's more obscure music to light, as well as focussing on better known compositions.
As well as fronting his own band, Tom has worked with Terell Stafford, Joe Lovano, Jason Rebello, Michael Buckley and Jean Toussaint, as well as commercial artists such as Heather Small and M-People.
Featuring prominently in the group is the internationally renowned vocalist and veritable one-man band, Cleveland Watkiss, one of the co-founders of the influential big band, The Jazz Warriors.
Dubbed by the Evening Standard as "The best male vocalist in Britain", Cleveland's vocal prowess has seen him perform with a diverse range of artists - from Art Blakey, Branford and Wynton Marsalis, Courtney Pine and Abdullah Ibrahim, to Bob Dylan and Keith Richards!
Completing the line-up are Daniel Casimir (Double Bass) and veteran multi award-winning Irish Jazz Musician of the Year and MOBO nominee, David Lyttle (Drums).
"Combining simplicity of melody with sophisticated detail and hints
of Traneish spirituality . . . Harrison is one to watch.” - Jazz Journal
"Watkiss can create any of these sounds in live performance . . .
he can be a one-man band.” - Time Out
